US: The McDonald’s restaurant where Donald Trump worked failed its last health inspection
US: Documents reveal that the McDonald’s restaurant where Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump worked for a short while on Sunday did not pass its most recent health inspection.
The former president worked at the drive-thru lane of Feasterville-Trevose in Bucks County, a crucial swing voting region in battleground Pennsylvania, where he ran the fry station and took orders from customers. For Trump’s visit, the eatery was off-limits to the general public.
A self-confessed germophobe who enjoys McDonald’s cuisine, Trump did not wear gloves or a hairnet during his visit, saying his hands were “nice and clean.” Instead, he donned an apron over his shirt and tie. The Meidas Touch claims that he didn’t wash his hands before starting work.
One of the reasons the restaurant failed its most recent inspection was because the staff did not wash their hands.
Newsweek has reached out to the Trump campaign and McDonald’s for comments outside of regular business hours. Should a remark be received, this article will be updated.
Following an inspection on March 27, the Bucks County Department of Health issued a report citing health code breaches, such as staff members not having “clean and properly washed hands.”
Additionally, it said that workers have been seen without washing their hands after actions that may contaminate them or before donning gloves.
“Food employees are not washing their hands as required before putting on gloves, after handling soiled tableware, after handling raw meat, before handling clean tableware, equipment, utensils,” the county inspector said in his report. “Observed employees handling raw beef with gloves and then switching gloves without hand washing step in between.”
Additionally, according to the inspection, “food workers, including management that assists in packaging and preparation of food, were not wearing hair restraints as required.”
“Employees shall wear hair restraints such as hats, hair coverings or nets, they are effectively designed and worn to keep their hair from contacting exposed food; clean equipment, utensils and linen; and unwrapped single-service and single-use articles,” the study said.
The eatery was also reprimanded for failing to store certain food at the proper temperature. A walk-in freezer with “heavy ice and frost buildup” that required maintenance and repairs was also mentioned in the study.
Trump was criticized on social media by some for not donning gloves or any kind of hair restraint.
“My issue with the Trump/McDonald staged… The shop was closed by them. People lost salary for a man who doesn’t think overtime should be added to hourly pay. When handling food, he was not wearing gloves. Public communications specialist Tonya McKenzie posted on X, previously Twitter, saying, “This is dumb.”
“Seeing the photos of Trump ‘working’ at McDonald’s makes me want to scream,” remarked Lynn Marchitelli. Numerous infractions related to food safety, such as the absence of gloves and a hair net. Horrible.”
Another user, @CHERRYW00609336, stated: “Trump is handling food with his bare hands—no gloves.” Violating the health and safety code.”
Others called Trump’s visit a publicity trick since the eatery was closed.
“Perhaps no stunt in the history of U.S. politics deserves more ridicule than the grotesquely embarrassing mummery Trump put on at a Pennsylvania McDonald’s today,” writer and attorney Seth Abramson wrote on X. Trump did nothing, the McDonald’s was shuttered, and the customers were phony.”
Trump’s visit coincided with his criticism of Democratic contender for vice president Kamala Harris’ claims to have worked at the fast food chain during her undergraduate years. Trump has consistently said, without providing any supporting data, that Harris is lying.
