US: Ryan Wesley Routh’s son says his father hated the former president after assassination attempt on Donald Trump
US: According to reports, the son of the guy detained after what seemed to be an attempt on the life of Donald Trump on Sunday feels his father despises the previous president.
At Trump’s golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, shots were fired, but no one was hurt. According to Trump’s spokesperson Steven Cheung, “President Trump is safe following gunshots in his vicinity,” Newsweek was informed on Sunday afternoon.
During a press conference on Sunday, Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said that a Secret Service agent had seen a rifle’s barrel protruding from the golf course’s fence. The shooter was shot by an agent, dropped his weapon, and drove off in an SUV. He was subsequently found in a nearby county.
On Facebook, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office reported that officers had pulled over a car and taken a suspect into custody. Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, was recognized as the suspect.
Shortly after the shooting on Sunday, Oran Routh, the son of Routh, told DailyMail.com that his father despises Trump as “every reasonable person does.”
He said, “I don’t like Trump either.”
He added that he did not know his father had a gun and that he is “not a violent person”. Additionally, Oran Routh expressed his shock that his father would single out the previous president.
“He’s my dad and all he’s had is couple traffic tickets, as far as I know,” Oran Routh said. “That is absurd. That’s nothing like my dad, even though I love and know him.”
Despite claiming a falling out, he called his father a “great dad” and a “hard worker.”
The incident on Sunday occurs barely nine weeks after the Republican presidential candidate escaped a gunman’s assault on his life when he was speaking at a Butler, Pennsylvania, rally. The occurrence on Sunday creates more concerns about the Secret Service’s actions after the organization was heavily criticized for its inability to stop the shooting on July 13.
Trump expressed gratitude to the Secret Service and law police for keeping him safe late on Sunday on his Truth Social platform.
Trump said in an email to his followers: “There were gunshots nearby, but I wanted you to know right away that I am safe and well before wild speculations start. Nothing will cause me to slow down. I refuse to give up!”
The investigation into the incident on Sunday is being headed by the FBI.
“The FBI has responded to West Palm Beach Florida and is investigating what appears to be an attempted assassination of former President Trump,” the agency informed Newsweek.
Republican governor of Florida Ron DeSantis said that the state will carry out an independent probe. “The people deserve the truth about the would be assassin and how he was able to get within 500 yards of the former president and current GOP nominee,” DeSantis posted on X.

Social Media Accounts of Ryan Routh Are Suspended
The X and Facebook pages of Routh were suspended after the incident on Sunday.
Numerous messages allegedly supported Ukraine in its fight against Russia were made on both accounts. In an interview with Newsweek Romania from June 2022, Routh discussed his attempts to find recruits for the International Legion Defense of Ukraine, a division of Ukraine’s Ground Forces.
A snapshot on the site shows that in a June 2020 post on X, Routh attacked Trump.
“@actualDonaldTrump Although you were my choice in 2016, the world and I both expected that President Trump would be better and different from the candidate, but we were both very disappointed. Moreover, it seems that you are becoming worse and worse; are you insane? I will be happy when you are gone, Routh added.
According to the Associated Press, Routh has been endorsing Democratic nominees Kamala Harris and Joe Biden in her writings over the last several years.
