US: Kamala Harris, Joe Biden express concern about shooting near Donald Trump
US: As soon as it was announced that former U.S. President Donald Trump was safe from where the gunfire took place at Trump’s National golf on Sunday, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were regarding the reported gun shot.
As some reports would have it, gun shots were heard at or around the Trump’s national golf club in West Palm Beach Florida where the 2024 Republican presidential candidate Mr. Trump was golfing.
“Trumps’s safety is not in jeopardy, even with gunfire few meters away from him”. Head of campaign communication Steven Cheung – of former president Trump’s administration in an afternoon statement to news week on Sunday said that at this point, there were no more facts.
In a similar message released by trump’s campaign on Sunday, Mr. Trump still quibbles via twitter that, I DO NOT FEEL THREATENED, I AM SAFE, I AM OK! Such determination and dedication will not be let up on. There shall be no surrender! I will continue to thank you, for ever, for the help. His message read One America. One Purpose. Go! Let’s Make America Great Again! Development.
Having superintended several campaigns along the west coast the former president flew back to Florida last week.
The White House further issued the statement to the associated Press and said, the democratic presidential nominees, Biden and Harris, had been inform and would be updated in the course of the investigation.
The White House expressed that they are ‘glad to find out that this person’s life is not in danger.’
“The security concern regarding the Trump International Golf Course, where President Trump was reported to be playing golf, has been conveyed to the President of the United States and the Vice President of the United States. May I also add that they are comforted with the knowledge that His Excellency is safe. Their aides would constantly update them on the developments,” the White House said in a statement.
Harris also condemned the incident in a post on X, formerly Twitter, where he stated that “America is not a country where violence is tolerated.”
“Most importantly, however, I feel safe more so because of the reports I have received about the distance between the gunfire and where former President Trump was staying in Florida. Violence is simply not acceptable in America,” the writer added.
As for the USSS, which works with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, it said on Sunday it had identified “a protective incident involving Trump, which occurred at around 2 p.m.” claiming that Trump was “fine.”
Two people began shooting outside Trump’s country club, according to the New York Post, which cited law enforcement sources, but the shots were fired at each other, not at the president.
The AP reports closings at the authorities level, such as the Sheriff’s Office Palm Beach County, that nobody was hurt.
The crossfire erupted from out of the sights, beyond the fencing of the said course says Reuters, quoting two persons that were made to know the event.
The AP spoke to law enforcement who spoke on the condition of anonymity and reported that after spotting an armed man loading the flags near the golf T, the US Secret Service officers opened up gunfire. A white SUV was used for fleeing this incident, police from the area found it with the individuals inside, in another region of the county according to the officers.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook that the carpeted vehicle and the suspected shooter attacked have been arrested.
“I-95 is blocked at 714 north bound traffic. A man known to have connection to a shooting at the Trump International in Palm Beach County has been arrested by Martin County Sheriff’s Office who has also pulled over a vehicle believed to be heading to I-95. Our page will be edited whenever even the slightest information will come up,” the Sheriff’s Office wrote on Facebook.
Law enforcement officials reported to the AP news agency that an AK-style pistol was found near the premises of the golf club owned by Trump, to which at least one gunshot was fired.
It has been two months since the failed assassination of Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, when an attacker fired a shot, only narrowly missing Trump’s ear. Trump was standing on the platform and delivering a speech at that event when he was fired at and shot on stage on July 13. The bullet went through on the right side of his head, at the upper back of his ear. There was a sniper on scene that killed the perpetrator identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks from Bethel Park Pennsylvania by the FBI. Along with two other fatalities, the incident claimed the life of 50-year-old retired firefighter Corey Comperatore who was attending the event in protest.
Since that time, it has led to concerns about the performance of the United States Secret Service and raised questions as to how secure Donald Trump and other presidential candidates are. For this reason, in July, Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle handed in her resignation and the House Oversight Committee controlled by the Republicans started to investigate this reunion shooting. Temporary Director Ronald L. Rowe Jr. is currently in charge here of the USSS.
Shortly ahead of the 2024 election, concern over security has been one of the concerns for many indoor as well as outdoor events, while weather led to other types of events.
Security for Trump has seemingly been a lot tighter as some measures instituted during his public outings such as the use of bulletproof structures for outdoor speeches have been adopted.
