US: Kamala Harris drinks beer and repeatedly attacks Trump during interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert
US: During her Tuesday appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Vice President Kamala Harris popped open a drink and relentlessly blasted her 2024 opponent Donald Trump.
Harris also spoke on prospects for a truce in the Israel-Hamas conflict and responded to claims that Trump covertly handed Russian President Vladimir Putin COVID-19 testing kits in 2020.
Part of a planned media blitz for the vice president in the last few weeks of the 2024 campaign, Harris’ warm and joke-heavy interview with Colbert was Harris visited legendary radio personality Howard Stern’s SiriusXM program and ABC daytime chat show The View earlier that day.
Since she became the Democratic presidential contender, the vice president has been under fire for mostly dodging challenging questions from established news sources. Considered one of the hardest the vice president has encountered throughout her 2024 campaign, Harris was questioned by 60 Minutes’ Bill Whitaker in an interview aired Monday.
According to Harris’ team, the strategy to seen more late-night programs and podcasts—including the enormously popular female-targeted Call Her Daddy—will allow her to reach to a broad spectrum of voters in the neck-and-neck contest with Trump.
From Harris’ chat with Colbert, Newsweek has highlighted the crucial points. Newsweek emailed Harris’ and Trump’s campaign staff asking for comments.
Consume Beer Under Colbert
Colbert informed Harris that some had referred to the 2024 contest as the “vibe election” upon her choice of running partner Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Colbert said that this is what people find most relevant, akin to how politicians are assessed on whether or not they would like to drink beer with them.
“Would you thus want to have a drink with me? I may therefore inform others what it is like.” Colbert asks before presenting two Miller High Life cans—brand the vice president requested earlier.
“The last time I had a beer was at a baseball game with Doug Emhoff,” Harris added, referring to her husband.
“The champagne of beers,” she said in reference to the moniker Miller High Life uses.
“So that covers Wisconsin,” Colbert said, referring to the important swing state where Miller Brewing Company started.
Calls Trump a “Loser.”
After Colbert questioned Harris if she thought Trump lost the 2020 election to President Joe Biden, Harris teased the former president.
“I’m going to tell you what some of the people in my rallies [say] — quite a few people are showing up by the way,” Harris said.
“What does it mean when you have lost manufacturing, automobile factories, the election, millions of jobs? a losser.
“This is what someone at my rally mentioned, and I thought it was humorous,” Harris remarked. “This is what occurs upon beer consumption.”
Harris’s “WTF” Discussion Reaction
In another part, Harris basically informed Colbert she was thinking “wtf” (what the f***) at one point on September 10 during her presidential debate with Trump.
Colbert asked Harris what she was thinking at that time after displaying her a popular photo of the vice president gripping her chin seeming deep in contemplation while listening to her opponent during the debate.
“Right, family TV is here. Harris came back. “It begins with a W. There is a letter between; then, at the conclusion, F.”
COVID-19 Inquiries for Vladimir Putin
Harris also attacked Trump over assertions made by seasoned Watergate writer Bob Woodward in his new book War that Trump provided Putin COVID-19 testing for the personal use in 2020. Denying the allegations, Trump and his team have
“Do you guys remember what those days were like? I ask everyone here and everyone else observing. You recall how many folks were rushing to get exams after not having any?” Harris replied.
“You recall people by the hundreds were dying every day, we would monitor the number daily being published of individuals who were dying…and this guy is sending Vladimir Putin COVID test kits?He considers Vladimir Putin to be his buddy. Regarding the American people, what about? They need to be your first buddy.
“Donald Trump freely praises autocrats and despots. Should he be elected once again as president, he has said he intends to be a dictator from day one. “He gets played since so-called strongmen flatter or offer him favor.”
Steven Cheung, Trump’s communications director, told Newsweek Woodward’s book—which was received by many media sites before of its October 15 publication—belonged in a “bargain bin.”
“none of these made-up tales by Bob Woodward are true and are the work of a truly demented and deranged man suffering from a debilitating case of Trump derangement syndrome,” Cheung stated.
hopes for Israel-Hamas Ceasefire
Harris said she was still hopeful for a peace agreement to put an end to the fighting between Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas in Gaza.
“We have to get a ceasefire and hostages agreement as now as most promptly possible. This battle needs to stop, Harris said.
“We cannot lose some belief in the possibility of it; else, we throw our hands instead of rolling up our sleeves.”
Following a major assault on Israel on October 7, 2023 by Hamas, more than 1,200 people perished. According to The Associated Press, Israel’s yearlong assault on Gaza has claimed around 720 Israeli troops as well as over 41,000 Palestinians dead. According to Israel, some 97 of the captives taken on October 7 are still in Gaza.
Colbert asked Harris to clarify what the government understands when they claim that multiple times since the conflict started last October 7, a truce accord has been “close”.
“Close means that, although details remained, a lot of the elements have been worked out,” Harris added.
“So, while there has been some improvement, it is useless until an agreement is signed. Therefore, I would wish to advise you not to propose that we should be praised for occasionally approaching a transaction close.”
