US: Donald Trump nicknamed Arizona Senate candidate Carrie Lake “Border Carrie Lake”

US: During his rally in Tucson, Arizona on Thursday, Donald Trump granted Kari Lake, a close political supporter and candidate for the Arizona Senate, the moniker “Border Kari Lake”.

Lake was in the crowd, and the Republican presidential candidate called her “a fantastic person” and “tough on the border.”Lake is running for the Arizona Senate seat held by Kyrsten Sinema, an independent who was elected as a Democrat. The election is expected to take place in November.

In the November 2022 midterm elections, Republicans attempted to take control of the Senate but were unsuccessful when the much-anticipated “red wave” did not emerge. Against 49 Republicans, 51 senators, including Sinema, are still in favor of the Democrats, at least when it comes to committee work.

“She’s tough on the border so if you don’t mind I’m going to call her Border Kari Lake,” Trump remarked during his speech at his rally on Thursday. It’s Border Kari Lake from now on.

She’s an amazing lady; I’ve known her for a long time; I was among the first to support her; I’ll tell you that she’s tough—very tough—on the border; let’s give it some thought.”

As to the local media network, Arizona’s Family 3TV & CBS 5, Lake, who was seated in the front row, “stood and pumped her fist” in reaction to being dubbed.

Later in his speech, Trump mentioned the moniker once again, saying, “Border Kari Lake, thank you, thank you border Kari.” You know when I give somebody takes, they stick with them, so I’m giving her one. But she’s going to be fantastic, so that’s a nice one.”

Outside of normal business hours on Friday, Newsweek emailed officials of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and Kari Lake’s Senate campaign to request response.

On his Truth Social website earlier on Tuesday, Trump gave advise to both Lake and fellow Republican Bernie Moreno, who is running to replace Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown in Ohio.

The previous president stated: “Kari Lake and Bernie Moreno should be running almost exclusively on the Safety and Security of their States, not allowing Illegal Aliens to get anywhere near Arizona or Ohio, and getting the ones that are already in—OUT!”

Current Representative Ruben Gallego, the Democratic opponent of Lake in the Arizona Senate election, is leading the field according to recent polls.

Gallego led Lake with 48 percent of the vote to 42 percent in a Redfield & Wilton Strategies survey of 765 potential voters in the state, which was done for The Telegraph between September 6 and September 9.

Separately, Gallego led by eight points with 49% of the vote versus 41% in a Morning Consult poll of 901 potential voters conducted between August 30 and September 8.

Former TV news anchor Lake lost the 2022 Arizona governor’s race to Democrat Katie Hobbs, who is now the state’s governor. Lake was an unsuccessful candidate.

Lake, however, claimed the race was rigged against her and contested the results in court; nonetheless, the courts always upheld the initial result.

Trump has a long history of calling other politicians by nickname, but he normally directs them more at his opponents than at his allies.

As examples, consider referring to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis as “Ron DeSanctimonious,” dubbing President Joe Biden “Sleepy Joe,” and referring to Hillary Clinton, his opponent in the 2016 presidential election, as “Crooked Hillary.”
