Fresh American Cucumbers Whole

On December 1, 2024, H-E-B issued a recall for Sunfed Produce Cucumbers due to possible Salmonella contamination.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) initiated a multi-state Sunfed Produce cucumber recall, including this one, when it was discovered that cucumbers shipped between October 12, 2024, and November 26, 2024, may have been tainted with salmonella.

Customers in Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin purchased the cucumbers, according to SunFed’s November report on the subject. SunFed and other importers also sold the cucumbers.

by the FDA notified SunFed that their cucumbers were linked to reported cases of salmonellosis—an ailment that may be obtained by consuming the salmonella bacteria—they were removed off the shelves.

Fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and cramps are all possible symptoms of salmonellosis. It may be lethal in some situations, killing over 450 Americans annually.

SunFed president Craig Slate stated, “We took swift action to safeguard customers as soon as we became aware of this problem. To ascertain the potential reason, we are collaborating closely with the involved ranch and the authorities. For over 30 years, SunFed has prioritized customer health and well-being as well as food safety. All of our producers must closely adhere to the FDA’s guidelines for food safety.

Some Waffle Products from Treehouse Foods

H-E-B announced a recall of some Treehouse Foods waffle items on October 18, 2024, due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

The FDA issued a larger recall for several hundred waffle items under 25 different Treehouse Foods trademarks, which included this H-E-B recall.

High temperature, intense headache, stiffness, nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort may all result from ingesting Listeria monocytogenes. However, it may cause stillbirths or miscarriages in pregnant women and be lethal to immunocompromised individuals.

“TreeHouse Foods has extended its voluntary recall to now include all griddle products manufactured at our Brantford, Ontario, Canada, facility,” a TreeHouse Foods spokesman told Newsweek in October. Due to the possibility of Listeria monocytogenes contamination, the frozen toaster waffle, Belgian waffle, and pancake items are being recalled. There have been no verified complaints of disease or harm associated with the recalled goods.

“We are working with our retail customers to retrieve and destroy the recalled products and encourage consumers to check their freezers for any of the products subject to the recall and dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.”

Meat and poultry products from BrucePac that are ready to eat

BrucePac’s ready-to-eat beef and poultry items were recalled by H-E-B on October 11 for potential listeria contamination.

Nearly 10 million pounds of BrucePac beef were taken off the market as a consequence of a countrywide recall conducted by the U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

There have been no documented incidents of sickness linked to the BrucePac products at the time of the recall.
