Taylor Swift is supporting Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential race
After teasing her support for Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential election on Tuesday, Taylor Swift put a stop to rumors that the pop sensation will back the same candidate in November.
“Like many of you, I tuned in to tonight’s debate. Now is a terrific moment, if you haven’t already, to learn more about the problems at hand and the positions these candidates take on the subjects that are most important to you. Shortly after her Republican opponent, former President Donald Trump, and Harris wrapped up their ABC News discussion, Swift posted on Instagram, saying, “As a voter, I make sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country.”
I just learned that an artificial intelligence (AI) image purporting to represent me was uploaded on Donald Trump’s website. My concerns about AI and the risks of disseminating false information were evoked by it. It led me to the conclusion that, as a voter, I must be really open about my true intentions for this election. The truth is the most straightforward weapon against false information. In the 2024 presidential election, Tim Walz and Kamala Harris get my vote.
Early in August, when President Joe Biden withdrew from the 2024 presidential contest, Harris was selected as the Democratic Party’s contender. Governor of Minnesota Tim Walz was chosen by Harris as her running partner later that month.
Swift brought up Harris’ selection of Walz in her support
“I’m supporting @kamalaharris in my vote because she stands out for issues and rights that I feel require a champion. I think she is a calm, capable leader, and if she leads us instead of leading chaos, I think we can do so much more in this nation. Swift added, “I was so encouraged and impressed by her choice of running mate @timwalz, who has been fighting for decades for a woman’s right to her own body, IVF, and LGBTQ+ rights.”
“I’ve made my decision after doing my study. You are the only one who can do the study and make the decision. Additionally, I want to remind everyone—especially new voters—that you must be registered in order to cast a ballot. I also think casting a ballot early is considerably simpler. In my narrative, I’ll provide a link to register and information on early voting days.
Swift concluded the post by referring to herself as a “childless cat lady,” a reference to a term that Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance, had previously used to disparage Democrats.
Swift declared her support for Biden and Harris’ presidential campaign in 2020.
Prior to endorsing two Democratic candidates from Tennessee in the 2018 midterm elections, Swift had mostly avoided politics for the better part of her almost two-decade career. Since then, she has been an outspoken supporter of Democratic candidates and causes, often urging her followers to cast ballots and speaking out in favor of LGBTQ+, women’s, and reproductive health rights.
In the highly heated moment in her 2020 documentary “Miss Americana,” Swift told her father Scott that she felt compelled “to be on the right side of history” and expressed sorrow for not speaking out about political matters sooner.
In a different moment, she attacked Trump.
A group of Swift followers dubbed “Swifties” organized during the 2024 election season and created an online forum called Swifties for Kamala soon after Biden withdrew from the contest and endorsed Harris.
During its two-hour launch call in August, the group—with thousands of followers on X—which Swift is not associated with—raised over $122K. Speakers included vocalist Carole King and Massachusetts Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren.
Irene Kim, PR director for Swifties for Kamala, previously told CNN, “We believe Harris-Walz will fight for our rights and the rights of our loved ones and help make this country safer for everyone.”
