State senator accused of making racist comments about US Democratic candidate
American: A Republican state senator from Idaho has come under fire for allegedly making racist comments against a Democratic candidate for the state’s House of Representatives who is Native American.
At a nonpartisan “Meet Your Candidates” event in Kendrick on Tuesday, Senate incumbent Dan Foreman was questioned about prejudice in Idaho. According to Boise State Public Radio, he allegedly stated that “discrimination doesn’t exist.”.
The Democratic contender Trish Carter-Goodheart stated in a statement that she “highlighted our weak hate crime laws and mentioned the presence of the Aryan Nations in northern Idaho as undeniable evidence of this reality.” The statement was released on Wednesday.
Foreman allegedly said to Carter-Goodheart, “I’m so sick and tired of this liberal bullshit.” Why don’t you return to your original location?”
Among the five tribes in the state of Idaho that have received federal recognition is the Nez Perce tribe, of which Carter-Goodheart is a member.
Foreman said that the charges against him were “patently false” and that he “made no, repeat no, racial slur or statement of any nature” in a Facebook post.
The Idaho Statesman reported that two event organizers confirmed Carter-Goodheart’s claim, despite Newsweek’s inability to secure a tape of the event.
In a Thursday Facebook post, Foreman went on to say, “There is no systemic racism in America or Idaho,” before slamming the media for covering the “phony incident.”
Just take a look at what they did to former President Trump
“I guess we should anticipate this kind of conduct. Foreman commented, “Just take a look at what they did to former President Trump.” “It seems the more effective a conservative elected official is, the more that person is attacked by the left and most, not all, of the media.”
Carter-Goodheart made the following comment in her statement: “I remained to demonstrate to our community that I can and will deal with challenging, unpleasant circumstances.
“Several audience members approached me after the forum to express their support and apologize for Sen. Foreman’s actions. However, those in the audience don’t need to apologize.”
In the 2024 Idaho Senate race, Foreman is a current candidate seeking reelection for the state’s 6th legislative district.
The Idaho Statesman was informed by Julia Parker, Foreman’s Democratic opponent, that Foreman had threatened her earlier in the event when she questioned his senate record and that he had rushed out of the gathering immediately after the outburst.
“This charge is demonstrably untrue as well,” Foreman said on Facebook. “I told my political opponent to stop deviating from the stated rules of the forum and not to repeat the offense during the ensuing proceedings after she violated those rules by making a personal and unwarranted insulting attack on me in her opening remarks.”
