Ryan Wesley Routh, the alleged gunman behind the second attempt to assassinate Donald Trump, got within 500 yards of the former president
The former president was allegedly within 500 yards of Ryan Wesley Routh, the suspected shooter behind Donald Trump’s second attempted assassination attempt, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
The Republican Party’s presidential candidate, Donald Trump, is “safe” after gunfire at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday; no injuries were reported. By email on Sunday night, the FBI informed Newsweek that it is looking into the incident, which happened at 1:30 p.m. EST, calling it an “attempted assassination.”
At a news conference on Sunday afternoon, Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw reported to the media that a Secret Service agent had seen the shooter at the golf course with a weapon protruding from a fence bordered by shrubs. After the suspect “engaged” with the agent, he drove from the scene. According to Bradshaw, the gunman came within 300–500 yards of Trump. Subsequently, the culprit was arrested in a nearby county.
In a statement to Newsweek on Sunday, Miami Field Office Chief of the Secret Service, Special Agent Rafael Barros, expressed gratitude to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, among other law enforcement partners of the agency.
“Former President Donald Trump is safe and unharmed following a protective incident shortly before 2 p.m. Sunday at Trump International Golf Club at West Palm Beach,” Barros said. “Secret Service personnel opened fire on a gunman located near the property line and this matter is under investigation.”
Only nine weeks have passed since the former president was the subject of an attempted assassination on July 13 at a campaign event in Butler, Pennsylvania. This Sunday’s gunshot. In a statement released on Sunday, Trump spokesman Steven Chueng informed Newsweek that the former president “is safe following gunshots in his vicinity.” In a statement, Trump said, “I AM SAFE AND WELL! Nothing will cause me to slow down. I refuse to give up! You have my eternal gratitude for your assistance. Peace and unity. Remake America Great.”
According to the White House, Democratic presidential contender Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden were informed about the incident and expressed relief that the former president was unharmed.
