Winter storms may result in power outages, and snow may cause traffic disruptions and hazardous driving conditions. Snow, ice, and dangerously low temperatures are predicted to affect travel and everyday activities over the weekend, according to winter weather warnings issued.

The Eastern Lake Ontario area of New York is under a Winter Weather Advisory from 7 p.m. on Saturday to 1 p.m. on Sunday (EST), according to the National Weather Service. Four to seven inches of accumulation are predicted due to lake-effect snow, with the Tug Hill Plateau forecast to get the most amounts. Authorities have issued a warning about hazardous traffic conditions brought on by heavy snowfall and poor visibility.

Strong gusts and blowing snow will drastically reduce visibility along Alaska’s Beaufort Sea Coast and Northwest Arctic Coast. For the Central and Eastern Beaufort Sea Coast, the Winter Weather Advisory is in force from 6 a.m. Saturday to 3 a.m. Monday (AKST). It warns of wind chills as low as minus 50 degrees Fahrenheit and wind gusts of up to 45 mph, which may result in frostbite in a matter of minutes. Travelers are advised to exercise care, especially in open spaces. Similar circumstances with wind gusts of up to 30 mph are warned for the Northwest Arctic Coast by a second alert that is in place until 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Up until 9 a.m. Saturday (CST), parts of South Central Texas, including San Antonio, Austin, New Braunfels, and the neighboring regions, are still under a Winter Weather Advisory. Roads, bridges, and walkways might become dangerous due to a thin layer of ice deposition caused by freezing rain and drizzle. Drivers have been urged by authorities to reduce their speed and be ready for possible power shortages.

Additionally, Kalispell, Libby, Flathead Lake, and the neighboring roadways in Montana are anticipating freezing rain. With ice accumulations of up to tenths of an inch, the Winter Weather Advisory, which is in force from 11 p.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday (MST), may make driving dangerous, particularly on secondary and dirt roads.

Residents in all impacted areas are being advised by officials to exercise care, refrain from needless travel, and keep abreast of road conditions. You may check local transportation websites or contact 511 for the most recent weather and traffic information.

“Not as cold this weekend with temperatures around the freezing mark both Saturday and Sunday,” NWS Buffalo said on X. A small amount of lake effect snow will still be present, mostly east of Lake Ontario.

“We have issued a Blizzard Warning for the Northwest Arctic Coastline,” NWS Fairbanks said on X. There is almost no visibility, according to the FAA’s Point Lay camera. As snow from over the ice is brought by northeast winds, these circumstances are predicted to last until Sunday.

“Drizzle and light rain continue, with temperatures at or just above freezing for most,” NWS Austin/San Antonio said on X. Light ice has already been reported in a few places, and we anticipate further icing throughout the course of the night.

“Rain is expected this weekend, increasing the risk of icy gravel and dirt roads Saturday–Sunday,” NWS Missoula said on X. Where subsurface temperatures remain below freezing, icy patches may occur. Drive carefully by checking road updates, slowing down, and keeping an eye out for black ice. The NWS often posts updates on its website, so forecasts are subject to change.
