Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law Lara Trump intends to step down as co-chair
US: President-elect Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, announced her intention to resign from her role as co-chair of the Republican National Committee for the 2024 election cycle.
The action was taken in the midst of growing rumors that she would be chosen to replace a Senate seat in Florida, where Senator Marco Rubio has been nominated for secretary of state.
In a post on X, Lara Trump said, “The job I came to do is now complete and I intend to formally step down from the RNC at our next meeting.”
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis would have to choose a replacement to complete Rubio’s remaining term, which ends in 2026, if Rubio is confirmed as secretary of state in Trump’s upcoming cabinet.
According to Lara Trump, “It is something I would seriously consider,” during an interview with The Associated Press.
“If I’m being totally transparent, I’m not sure what that would look like,” she said. And if it is something that is true for me, I definitely want to learn as much as I can. However, I would definitely give it some thought.
