Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau takes a dig at Donald Trump after Canada’s hockey win
After Canada won the 4 Nations ice hockey tournament by defeating the United States 3-2 in overtime, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada made fun of Donald Trump. Trudeau posted the following on X, the previous Twitter: “You can’t take our country—and you can’t take our game.” With 4.8 million views and over 31,000 retweets, the post went viral.
Trump urged the Canadians on his Truth Social website before the game, telling the U.S. squad “to spur them on towards victory tonight against Canada” that “will someday, maybe soon, become our cherished, and very important, Fifty First State.”

Furthermore, Trump once again called the prime minister of Canada “Governor Trudeau.” White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre used similar language when she stated, “We look forward to the United States beating our soon-to-be 51st state.”
According to a YouGov survey, 77 percent of Canadians are against the concept, despite Trump’s repeated calls in recent months for Canada to become the 51st state to join the American Union.
After the American national anthem was jeered at a previous 4 Nations game in Montreal on February 15, several supporters jeered the Canadian song before the game in Boston.
When Chantal Kreviazuk sang the Canadian anthem, she altered the words from “in all of us command” to “that only us command” in protest of Trump’s remarks about the 51st state.
Kreviazuk explained her decision to the Associated Press, saying it was “because I believe in democracy, and a sovereign nation should not have to be defending itself against tyranny and fascism.”
Mitch Marner sent the ball to Connor McDavid, who scored Canada’s winning goal.
“It’s not an Olympic gold medal, but it means the world to our group,” McDavid remarked after the game. Everyone put up a fierce fight. It was unique. Although it wasn’t the most beautiful, we managed to make it work.
