A murder suspect was also found among two illegal immigrants in El Paso, Texas

Texas: Authorities in El Paso, Texas, have uncovered 77 illegal migrants in two stash homes, including a murder suspect.

After getting a tip on a potential stash house nearby, border patrol authorities found 72 individuals living in cramped and unhygienic circumstances in one building and five more people in a second property.

A warrant was served on an Overland Avenue property by the Texas Department of Public Safety, Homeland Security Investigations, El Paso Texas Constables, and the U.S. Border Patrol’s El Paso Sector Anti-Smuggling Units (ASU).

Two people will be prosecuted for their roles as guardians of the illicit stash house and human smuggling.

Five other migrants were found at a second residence on Val Verde Street after extra inquiry. Seventy-seven migrants in stable conditions were discovered, coming from Mexico, Honduras, Ecuador, Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic.

One of the Dominican Republic’s detained people was discovered by police to be sought for murder in his own country during record checks at the processing facility. This information was found in the database of the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL).

Every immigrant who was encountered underwent removal procedures under Title 8.

El Paso Sector human smuggling interdiction teams have found over 270 stash homes and arrested 2,663 migrants in Fiscal Year 2024.

According to CBP, when officials searched the site, they discovered migrants inside a storage shed with few windows, little ventilation, and heaps of garbage all around it.

“Our local El Paso community’s residents provide crucial cooperation that aids in keeping our city secure. Anyone with knowledge is encouraged to contact our office to report any suspicious conduct. A call might potentially save lives by assisting our officers in disrupting illicit smuggling, according to Chief Patrol Agent A. Scott Good of the El Paso Sector.

Additionally, Good said that “smugglers are prioritizing profits over migrant safety” in a post on X.

In the lead-up to the 2024 election, Republicans have attacked Democrats and Vice President Kamala Harris on the issue of immigration crime.

Former president Donald Trump has previously said that immigrants are “poisoning the blood of our country,” and vice presidential candidate JD Vance has made repeated, unsubstantiated assertions that people’s pets are being eaten by Haitian migrants.

Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas said at the Republican National Convention, “Every day Americans are dying.” “They are being raped, murdered, and assaulted by illegal immigrants that the Democrats have released,” he said.

However, Northwestern University research found that immigrants are “significantly less likely” to commit crimes than Americans of native birth.

The research examined imprisonment data from the U.S. Census for the 150 years between 1850 and 2020, under the direction of economist Elisa Jácome.

In a statement at the time, Jácome said, “Our study demonstrates that since 1870, it has never been the case that immigrants as a group have been more incarcerated than the U.S.-born.”

Texas was the subject of 2019 research by the libertarian thinker organization CATO Institute. They found that the likelihood of an illegal immigrant being found guilty of a crime was 37.1% lower.
