Grok’s developer raises the issue of “white genocide” in South Africa

South Africa: After users complained that the chatbot integrated on X, previously Twitter, unprompted brought up “white genocide” in South Africa when questioned about irrelevant subjects, Grok’s creator claimed that an “unauthorized modification” had occurred. According to xAI, the modification went against its “internal policies and core values.”

Reports of Grok mentioning “white genocide” in South Africa have been widely circulated on social media. Grok was also questioned on topics including HBO’s brand change, sinus clearing techniques, and the new pope’s peace message in Fortnite terms.

xAI reported that “an unauthorized modification was made to the Grok response bot’s prompt on X.”

“This change, which directed Grok to provide a specific response on a political topic, violated xAI’s internal policies and core values,” the business said. “We have conducted a thorough investigation and are implementing measures to enhance Grok’s transparency and reliability.”

It also said that it will set up a “24/7 monitoring team” to react more quickly to issues with Grok’s responses that automated systems missed.
