Vice President Dmitry Medvedev: Moscow’s “main task today” is to inflict “maximum defeat” on Ukraine
According to Russian Security Council deputy chairman Dmitry Medvedev, Moscow’s “main task today” is still “inflicting maximum defeat” on Ukraine.

The remarks were posted Wednesday morning on the Russian social network VK by former Russian President and Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.
“The SVO goes on. Russia is moving forward. Medvedev’s tweet said that halting the fight would spell the end of Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky’s administration and leadership, adding that the opponent is resolute and has not yet been vanquished.
“Therefore, inflicting maximum defeat on the enemy ‘on the battlefield’ remains our main task today.”
The remarks coincide with calls by US President Donald Trump for an immediate halt to Russia’s attack on Ukraine. He has expressed disapproval of the enormous death toll and damage, as well as the high price that American taxpayers must pay to assist Ukraine’s defense.
Trump has said that he believes Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, wants peace. Zelensky has stated his desire for a “guaranteed peace” as well.
America would have a clear economic interest in Ukraine’s destiny if Washington and Kyiv could complete a crucial minerals agreement.
Ukraine wants the United States to go one step further and provide security assurances that will safeguard Ukrainian sovereignty and discourage future Russian aggression.
Zelensky wrote to Trump to convey his want to proceed after a confrontation in an Oval Office meeting where the minerals contract was meant to be signed but was not due to a public disagreement about security assurances and perceived disrespect.
In his Tuesday night speech to Congress, Trump praised the letter and expressed gratitude to Zelensky for sending it.
“The letter reads Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to bring lasting peace closer,” Trump said. “Nobody wants peace more than the Ukrainians.”
Following the altercation with Zelensky, the United States has suspended its crucial military assistance to Ukraine.
Signing the minerals agreement meant that “American arms deliveries will most likely resume” immediately, Medvedev said on VK in response to Trump’s speech.
