Although a number of vice presidents have attended the Super Bowl, no incumbent president has, thus Trump’s expected presence this year marks a new record. He is scheduled to attend the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Philadelphia Eagles game at Caesars Superdome.
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) approved the hymn “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” which is sometimes referred to as the Black national anthem.
The artist Ledisi, who was born in Louisiana, will play it during this year’s Super Bowl.
James Weldon Johnson, the chairman of the NAACP, first composed the song as a poem in the late nineteenth century. In 1919, the NAACP selected it as their official anthem after his brother, John Rosamond Johnson, put it to music.
Following demonstrations against police brutality in the wake of George Floyd’s death, the NFL started playing the Black national anthem before pregame festivities in 2020.
Last year’s Super Bowl anthem performance threw MAGA into a tailspin.
On X, former Arizona Senate candidate Kari Lake wrote, “I’m STILL not standing for this divisive garbage,” in response to a photo of her sitting down during a rendition of the song. One country. One hymn.
“They’re desecrating America’s National Anthem by playing something called the ‘Black National Anthem,'” said Matt Gaetz, who declared that he would not watch the Super Bowl at all.
Additionally, for the first time since 2021, the words “Choose Love” and “It Takes All Of Us” will be shown at the back of one of the end zones during the Super Bowl instead of the statement “End Racism.”
The Super Bowl halftime performance will include Kendrick Lamar on stage. Not only will it be Lamar’s first Super Bowl solo performance, but it will also be the first time a single rapper has taken center stage during the halftime show.
“Rap music remains the most influential genre to date,” said Kendrick Lamar in a statement before the Super Bowl. And I’ll be there to remind everyone of the reason. They made the correct choice.
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem on X: “DHS has safeguarded the NFL Super Bowl for more than two decades. To guarantee a safe and secure game day in the Superdome and throughout the city of New Orleans, we’re working nonstop.”
During Super Bowl 59, the game will begin at 6:30 p.m. ET and be broadcast on FOX.
The MAGA contingent could be offended by the Black national anthem’s inclusion, and they’ll probably express their opinions on social media.
