US: The trial to determine whether former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani will be permitted to retain his $3.5 million Florida condominium starts on Thursday, January 16. The trial judge ordered the unsealing of Giuliani’s tax filings three days ago.

Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, a Georgia mother and daughter whom Giuliani falsely claimed manipulated the 2020 presidential election for Joe Biden, filed a $148 million lawsuit against Giuliani. Giuliani served as Trump’s campaign lawyer, and the two had been employed at a ballot-counting facility in Atlanta during the election.
Giuliani is now battling to prevent the transfer of his Florida property after a New York court ordered him to give Freeman and Moss his apartment in New York.

Giuliani’s arguments that his tax records are private were dismissed by Judge Lewis Liman in his January 13 ruling. “The presumption of access is not outweighed by the privacy and governmental considerations that advise against disclosing the tax information that is being suppressed. “The tax code itself does not require sealing because it specifically allows the disclosure of tax return information in federal and state judicial or administrative proceedings where ‘the taxpayer is a party to the proceeding,'” Liman decided.
Giuliani will testify as the first witness when the trial begins on Thursday. During a torturous cross-examination, Freeman and Moss’s attorneys will attempt to demonstrate that Giuliani is not a long-term resident of West Palm Beach and only uses the flat as a vacation residence.
