White House hits back at Putin’s comments on presidential election

US Elections: Vladimir Putin’s remarks that he favors Kamala Harris over Donald Trump in November’s presidential election have drawn retaliation from the White House.

The national security communications adviser for the White House, John Kirby, said that Putin “shouldn’t be favoring anybody one way or another.”

According to the White House, he said, “The American people should be the only ones who get to decide who the next president of the United States is.”

The US would “greatly appreciate” it, Kirby said, if Putin would “A. stop talking about our election, and B. stop interfering in it.”

This comes after Putin said earlier this week that Russia will now “support” Harris in the presidential election, despite the fact that President Joe Biden was previously the “favorite” of the nation until he withdrew from the contest in July.

“As I said before, President Biden was, if you can say such a thing, our favorite. He’s no longer running, but he invited his followers to support Ms. Harris, so we’ll follow suit,” he said on Thursday at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok.
