US: Meghan McCain voices support for Taylor Swift
US: After receiving criticism from Donald Trump for endorsing Kamala Harris, Meghan McCain declared her support for Taylor Swift.
“There are very few predictable constants in life as much as how much powerful women trigger Donald Trump,” McCain posted on September 15 on X, previously known as Twitter. especially those who openly express their belief that he is rubbish. Here, Taylor Swift’s only goal is to succeed.”
It came after Trump wrote, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” on his social media portal Truth Social.
Following Harris’s debate with Trump on September 10, Swift revealed her public support for Harris for president on Instagram, sparking a lot of conjecture.
Outside of business hours, Newsweek emailed McCain’s office, a Swift spokesman, and Trump’s campaign to request comment. We will update this item with any answer we get.
Meghan, who is most known for her writing, contributions to different news publications, and appearances on The View, is the daughter of the late senator and presidential candidate John McCain. Meghan has often attacked Trump in the past.
McCain has been a Republican since 2008, but she told the LA Times that she is “more liberal on social issues” and that she has not backed Trump. She also advocated for his impeachment after the 2021 assault on the Capitol.
As previously reported by Newsweek, she questioned Trump’s campaign slogan when she declared, “The America of John McCain has no need to be made great again because America was always great,” during her eulogy at her father’s burial in 2018.
McCain did not mention Trump by name, but many saw this to be a jab at the former president and his supporters.
McCain has said on X that she “remains a proud member of the Republican party” and wishes “for brighter days ahead,” without endorsing either Harris or Trump in the next race, as Newsweek has reported.
Her declaration came after her brother Jimmy McCain, as previously reported by Newsweek, said that he will be voting for Harris and Tim Walz in November after changing his voter registration to a Democrat.
McCain hasn’t always been Swift’s ally; during last summer’s podcast, she attacked the singer-songwriter for her different releases from her most recent album, The Tortured Poets Department (TTPD).
As previously reported by Newsweek, Swift questioned her co-hosts on her podcast Citizen McCain with Meghan McCain whether they thought that Swift’s repeated releases via TTPD hurt other artists’ success. She then claimed that her most recent release was a “deliberate act to sabotage” Charli XCX’s Brat.
As previously reported by Newsweek, McCain did clarify on the podcast episode that she is “not not a fan” and mentioned Swift’s generosity to other musicians.
Not only has McCain defended Swift, but Liz Cheney, Al Franken, and Jon Cooper have all voiced their support for her.
Stars including Flavor Flav, Barbra Streisand, Stephen King, and Bette Midler have posted on X in support of Swift.
