Sheriffs are patrolling routes after migrants who illegally entered the country near the US-Mexico border tried to board school buses
According to Nicole Cardinale of Fox 5, her son, who is eight years old, informed her about the encounter and characterized it as “really scary”. “He said that these people, who weren’t children, were attempting to go aboard with their bags on. He said there were several of them,” she remarked. Parents were informed by Liz Bystedt, the Jamul-Dulzura Union School District’s superintendent of schools, that school bus drivers are now required to continue driving if migrants flag them down.
According to the CBP, “Several people who were in the country unlawfully were brought into custody without any problems.
“All individuals taken into custody were transported to nearby processing centers for enrollment in removal proceedings.”
In an interview with his podcast Verdict, Texas senator Ted Cruz said that immigrants trying to board school buses pose a “profound threat to public safety.”
“Our families are in danger because Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, and congressional Democrats have chosen to allow violent criminals into this country,” he stated.
Cruz claimed that the migrants were trying to “kidnap” school buses; however, neither the Sheriff’s office nor the CBP’s statement supported this assertion.
Superintendent Liz Bystedt said in an email to families, “There never seemed to be any intent to take over the bus or harm anyone.” Nobody other than the kids ever got inside or even came close to getting inside a bus. Although there might have been a number of reasons for their desire to board the bus, none of them seem to have had anything to do with crime.”
Bystedt said that in the wake of the event, buses would henceforth avoid stations where migrants are present and instead go to the next planned stop for the protection of both drivers and kids.
“I want to stress once again that neither a hijacking nor a storming occurred on the bus. There were no threats expressed. We were not used to this kind of circumstance, so it was really scary,” Bystedt said.
According to a statement from the San Diego Sheriff’s Office, “Sheriff’s Deputies have been stepping up patrols on the school bus routes since Thursday in order to ensure the safety of the students.” In order to reassure the families affected by these occurrences, the Sheriff’s Office has been collaborating with the Jamul-Dulzura Union School District in response to community concerns.”
Throughout the week, deputies stepped up their patrols along the bus route to guarantee everyone’s safety.
The district reported the events to the California Highway Patrol, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, and the U.S. Border Patrol after the occurrence, which alarmed the parents.
At this point, it’s unclear whether the migrants believed the bus belonged to an advocacy organization that helps migrants or to the general public.
In the parts of the county where the bus lines run, volunteers and immigrant advocacy organizations often provide aid; some even utilize cars that mimic school buses. This was observed by the sheriff’s office.
